Municipal filing period closes, races develop

The filing period for municipal positions in the general election has closed and a number of races have developed in Marion and Fulton counties.
In Marion County, several races have developed.

In Bull Shoals, incumbent Mayor David Nixon will be challenged by Ed Martin and Michael Savu. For the Bull Shoals City Council position of Ward 2, Position 2, incumbent Dino Gianni will challenge Brenna Ferrell. Incumbent Daryl Lindman will challenge Roderick Schmitt for Ward 1, Position 1.

Also in Bull Shoals, Russell Meinking and Michael Castagna are running for Ward 2, Position 1 seat held by Chuck Kinler, who did not file for re-election. Wesley Phelan will face William Stahlman for the Ward 3, Position 1 seat held by David McBee, who is not seeking another term.

Two candidates have filed for unopposed positions on the Bull Shoals City Council. George Grede is running for his seat in Ward 1, Position 2, and Dale Forbus is running to succeed Kirby Davenport for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat.

In Flippin, one race has developed. Danna Hunt will face Lacie Ott Bettencourt for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat. Current council member Tim McEuen is not seeking another term. Heith Hogan is running unopposed for the Mayor of Flippin position.

Two incumbents are running unopposed for seats on the Flippin City Council including Tony Ford  and Joe Cantrall.

One other candidate is running unopposed for a seat on the Flippin City Council, Margaret Ott is running for Hogan’s current seat in Ward 2, Position 1.

In Pyatt, Cynthia St. Clair has filed for the Mayor position looking to succeed Ken Hancock who did not file for re-election. Kristine Williams, Wendy Nelson and Douglas Carter have filed for a seat on the city council.

In Summit, Tobey Norberg has filed for the Mayor position, and Donald Brideau has filed for a position on the city council.

In Yellville, five incumbents have filed for re-election and are running unopposed. The incumbents include Mayor Shawn Lane and council members Vickie Fogerty; Lorna Goodwin; Ken Rigmaiden; Layton Lee; Maggie Davenport; and Clark Gustin.

In Fulton County, several cities have candidates running unopposed.

In Salem, those running unopposed include incumbent Mayor Daniel Bush; incumbent Recorder and Treasurer, Jeremy Stone and incumbent City Attorney, Dwayne Plumlee.

Those filing for seats on the city council include incumbent Betty J. Teague; incumbent Marcia G. Newton; incumbent Richard Frazier; and incumbent Ted York.

In Viola, those running unopposed include incumbent Mayor Jackie Estes; Tracey Sherman for the recorder position; and incumbent council members Dennis Harber; Michael Sherman; Jerry Allen; Robert L. Lash; and Brandi Johnson.

Three races have developed in Mammoth Spring.

M. June Grant will face Danny Busch for the position of Mayor, looking to succeed Charles Vaughn who filed instead for a seat on the city council.

Robert Bennett will take on Vaughn in Ward 1, Position 1. Roy Dan Grant will challenge Barry O’Dell in Ward 2, Position 1.

Two council members are running unopposed. Incumbent Adam Davis and incumbent Thomas Owsley.

One candidate filed for re-election to the Mammoth Spring school board, incumbent Alexis Davis will keep her Position 3 seat.

KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news is awaiting the official filings for Baxter County.
