Friday football results include Yellville-Summit routing Baptist Prep

The Yellville-Summit High School football team was able to dominate its opener Friday in Little Rock. The Panthers beat up on Baptist Prep 47-18. Yellville-Summit starts the year at 1-0, and they’ll meet Johnson County Westside in their home opener.

Salem also started the year with a road victory. The Greyhounds were able to get past Earle by a final of 20-12. Salem begins with a mark of 1-0, and they’ll travel across the state line next week to take on Thayer.

Melbourne pulled away in the second half as they opened the season in front of the home crowd. The Bearkatz picked up a 34-14 win over Bald Knob. Melbourne is 1-0 overall, and their first road game of the year will be next week at Lonoke.

Harrison will come off a winning note into their game next week with Mountain Home. The Goblins went on the road and defeated Springdale 24-14. Harrison is 1-0 on the year.

On the eight-man level, Izard County’s inaugural football game ended on a rough note. The Cougars suffered a 46-20 loss to Mountain View, the third-ranked team in Classes 4A/3A by the Arkansas Sports Media. Izard County starts the season at 0-1, and they’ll host Marshall next week. The Yellowjackets are 1-0, and their next game is Sept. 9 when they face Subiaco Academy for their home opener.

Marshall had a rough night to begin its third season of eight-man football. The Bobcats fell 50-18 at home to Rector, the third-ranked team in Classes 2A/1A. Marshall is 0-1 on the season.
