A Salesville man is accused of barricading several people in a Briarcliff residence, stabbing another male in the hand and throwing insecticide on a female and two Baxter County deputies during a domestic incident. Forty-two-year-old Clayton Moore is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
According to Sheriff John Montgomery, deputies responded Friday evening to a residence on Ben Hope Drive. The suspect was said to be Moore, who has a history of violent behavior and flight from authorities.
One deputy talked to the female victim, and she claimed Moore threw what she thought was gasoline on her and threatened to set her on fire. Moore had also allegedly assaulted her and threw her on the ground. In addition, the female accused Moore of grabbing a spear and threatening to kill her. She eventually fled from the residence. Authorities say she was bleeding from her elbow and leg. The victim also indicated Moore had barricaded himself inside the residence, and there were several others inside who could be in danger.
The male victim was then found to have been stabbed in his hand. The deputy claims he observed others in the residence through a window, but he did not see Moore. Another deputy arrived, and authorities attempted to make contact with Moore. When they attempted to open the front door, they reportedly observed a refrigerator blocking the entrance. After they partially opened the door, Moore allegedly threw a pry bar and a flashlight, and both objects struck one of the deputies. He then reportedly threw a liquid substance on both deputies. It was determined to be insecticide, and that what was also on the female.
A third deputy arrived on scene and made verbal communication with Moore. After a period of time, Moore exited the residence and surrendered. Deputies entered the residence and observed it to be in disarray with considerable damage, including a broken door window and door frame, stab marks in the wall and other smashed and broken objects. Paramedics provided first aid to both civilian victims and the first two deputies at the scene.
Moore faces two felony counts each of second-degree battery and aggravated assault on a family or household member, one felony count each of first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree criminal mischief and one misdemeanor count each of third-degree domestic battery and resisting or refusal to submit to arrest. Records indicate he also has 14 prior bookings at the Baxter County Detention Center.
