A Stone County man has been arrested after a domestic disturbance leads to two felony charges.

21-year-old Devon Michael Elliott of Mountain View was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member along with domestic battery in the third degree.

On August 14, authorities were called to a home the victim shares with Elliott with reports of screaming and yelling. When the caller approached the residence, she could see Elliott trying to hit the victim, who is approximately 37 weeks pregnant. She asked her husband to knock on the door and as Elliott answered, the victim came running around the outside corner of the home and into a nearby neighbor’s residence.

The victim says the argument started on August 13 when Elliott refused to go to work, telling her he needed collateral to take with him to make sure she would still be home when he returned. She stated Elliott started to take her belongings and when she tried to take them back, Elliott started choking her with both hands. He stopped to yell at her and then continued as he adjusted his grip with one hand under her chin so she could not breathe. The victim said she tried to calm him down, but he took off her glasses and threw them, along with other belongings, around the residence.

She stated as the verbal altercation continued, Elliott was punching walls and yelling when the knock came at the door. When he answered the door, the victim was able to unlock the back door to run towards the neighbor’s home. The victim stated she feared for her life and the life of her unborn child. She believed Elliott was not going to let her leave the residence until she signed over the rights of the child to him or until the child was born.

Elliott remains in custody with bond set at $15,000.
