The final weekend of the Buffalo National River’s 50th anniversary celebration will be Saturday and Sunday. The park is celebrating the many ways visitors enjoy healthy activities outdoors and personal rejuvenation through the natural resources of the river.
All day Saturday and Sunday there will be a parkwide scavenger hunt. Photo geocaching locations will be set up around the park, encouraging visitors to get outside and explore the secret spots of the park. Prizes will be awarded if all are found.
Saturday evening at 6 there will be a moon party at Tyler Bend where visitors can learn about and enjoy the beauty of the full moon at America’s First National River. Rangers will discuss myths, mysteries, and misconceptions along with fun facts about our only natural. Telescopic views of the moon as it rises will be available to participants.
Stretch out the remnants of a busy summer with beginner yoga a Steel Creek and Buffalo Point Campgrounds Saturday morning at 9:30. Bring a yoga mat and join instructors in stretching exercises.
These events are the final part of a series of special event weekends scheduled throughout 2022 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Buffalo National River. Buffalo National River was originally designated by Congress as public land in 1972 to conserve the unique scenic and scientific features of the area, while preserving as free flowing an important segment of the Buffalo River for the enjoyment of future generations.
Preparation for and presentation of these events are made possible by the hard work and volunteerism of many park and community partners, including Buffalo National River Partners.
