Chris Alan Gladney is a homeless sex offender who has been booked into the Baxter County Detention Center 30 times.

The 62-year-old Gladney was put in jail once again in early October when he kicked one of the Mountain Home police officers trying to take him out of a local fast food restaurant at the request of management.

He was in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and announced he was making application to the Public Defender’s Office for the services of an attorney to defend him.

Gladney alleged he had been beaten up in the jail, but provided no details.

He was ordered to reappear on October 31.

NOT WELCOME

Gladney has been “trespassed” at a number of businesses in the city and is often escorted out by police.

The incident on October 6 began when police were notified that Gladney was inside a fast food restaurant in Mountain Home from which he is reported to have been “trespassed” several times.

When the initial officer arrived, he spoke with restaurant management and was told the staff at the business had asked Gladney to leave, but he refused, became angry and slammed his hands on the table.

Another officer arrived and Gladney was informed he was under arrest. At that point, he began to yell, point his finger and refuse to follow simple commands.

The officers had to pull Gladney out of his seat. Once that had been done Gladney was reported to have kicked one of the officers.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Gladney was taken to the ground and the officers were able to place hand restraints on him.

He was taken to the Baxter County jail and booked on charges of battery of a police officer in the second degree and misdemeanor criminal trespass.

His bond is set at $5,000.

In late June 2010, Gladney was convicted of two counts of sexual indecency with a child. He was accused of exposing himself and masturbating in public with children present on two separate occasions.

He is registered as a Level 3 offender, meaning he presents a high risk of re-offending, according to the Arkansas Sex Offender Registry.

Many of Gladney’s run-ins with the law have come because he fails to abide by the rules and regulations governing the sex offender registration program.

Because he is homeless, it more difficult than normal to keep track of Gladney, particularly when he does not report as required.
