The second of two people arrested during a late April compliance visit to a home along Glenbriar appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

The two people, 22-year-old Mary Medley, and 33-year-old Carlo Joseph Farruggia, have both appeared in court, pled guilty and both were sentenced to three-years probation.

The guilty plea was entered to charges of possessing methamphetamine and paraphernalia to use the drug.

At the time she was arrested in April, Medley was already on supervised probation. She had pled guilty to drug charges on July 16, 2020 and was put on probation for six years.

New charges filed against Medley as a result of the compliance visit triggered the filing of a petition to revoke her probation in the 2020 case.

Farruggia was allowed to address the court at the end of his sentencing recently. He said he wanted it known that all of the “illegal stuff” found in the residence belonged to him and that Medley was unaware that the items were even in the house

THE ARREST

On April 27, officers made contact with Farruggia in the backyard of Medley’s home. According to the probable cause affidavit, Farruggia appeared about to flee the scene.

During a weapons search, Farruggia was found to have a number of pipes used for smoking methamphetamine and marijuana on his person.

In searching the residence and a nearby shed, officers also found digital scales, more smoking devices and a clear plastic bag containing a substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine.

A number of the items were found in a black safe locate in a bedroom described as being occupied by Farruggia and Medley.

Both Farruggia and Medley were arrested and booked into the Baxter County Detention Center. They have both been free on $5,000 bonds.

Farruggia’s first criminal case was filed in late 2014, with more cases opened in 2015, 2016, 2017 and this year. Most of his charges have been drug-related.
