The Ultimate Auto Group Basketball Tournament came to an end Thursday in Mountain Home with the host teams winning both of the third place games. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
After trailing for much of the game, the Lady Bombers were able to defeat Fair Grove, Missouri, 56-50. After two lead changes and one tie early on, the Lady Eagles pulled away from Mountain Home later in the first half. Fair Grove went up by double digits before the Lady Bombers went on a 7-0 run and cut the margin to one possession before halftime. The two teams exchanged the lead five more times in the second half. Mountain Home went up for good in the final period, eventually increasing their lead to double digits. The Lady Eagles cut their deficit back to six, but by then, it was too little, too late.
Laykin Moore led the Lady Bombers with 15 points, and Amelia Rucker added 11. For Fair Grove, Ashton Bell scored 19 points, and Kameron Green chipped in 14.
Mountain Home improves to 9-7 on the season. The Lady Eagles fall to 8-3.
The third place game of the boys’ bracket was more lopsided with the Bombers breezing past Paragould 72-45. Mountain Home never trailed in this game as they were looking to avenge a loss to the Rams nearly two weeks ago in the same building. In the previous matchup, Gavin Hall hit seven three-pointers for Paragould and exploded for 31 points. He was held more in check this time around as he only hit one shot from behind the arc. In addition, the Bombers outrebounded the Rams 37-20 en route to their 27-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Braiden Dewey with 20 points, and Hagan Robb and Blaine Tate each had 11. Hall finished with 15 points for Paragould, and Caleb Jiles provided 12.
The Bombers are now 9-7 on the year. The Rams drop to 9-5.
The championship games of the tournament were swept by Farmington. The Lady Cardinals successfully defended their title from a year ago as they squeaked by Paragould 51-48. In a battle of previous unbeatens, Farmington’s boys came out on top over Greene County Tech 61-52.
Flippin’s girls ended up in sixth place in the tournament as they were edged out by Clinton 45-42. The Lady Bobcats’ record is now 10-7.
The Flippin boys also lost their fifth place game to Greenwood 61-52. Rilyn Robins was the Bobcats’ top scorer with 21 points. Flippin falls to 11-10 on the season.
Salem’s girls were able to finish in seventh place after getting past Rogers 63-57. The Lady Greyhounds improve to 12-3 on the year.
The seventh place game on the boys’ side was won by Junction City. The Dragons topped Cave City by a final of 71-61.
Both of Mountain Home’s teams will begin 5A-West conference play on Jan. 6 with a trip to Siloam Springs.
