Thursday basketball results include MHCA boys falling on last day of ASUMH/Arvest Winter Jam

The Mountain Home Christian Academy boys’ basketball team suffered a 72-60 loss to Lead Hill on the final day of the Arkansas State University-Mountain Home/Arvest Bank Winter Jam at the Yellville-Summit Multi-Purpose Facility. Jordan Woods led the Eagles with a game high 26 points, including 15 from three-point range. Quintin Sewell scored 19 points for the Tigers, Mason Cain had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Jayce Williams ended up with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaden Baker provided 11 points.

Two area girls’ teams played their final games in the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational at Pea Ridge.
Viola ended up in fourth place in the tournament. The Lady Longhorns wrapped up the week with a 61-33 loss to Star City.
Mammoth Spring was crowned the champions with a 78-56 victory over Pea Ridge. The Lady Bears were led by Brynn Washam with 29 points, Adrianna Corbett finished with 19, Sara Crowe scored 14, and Tay Davis added 11 points.

Three area boys’ teams wrapped up action in the Maverick Division of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland.
Calico Rock was able to finish on a winning note. The Pirates picked up a 68-53 victory over Middle College from Memphis.
Izard County ended up in fourth place in the Maverick Division following a 77-64 loss to Highland. Jude Everett was the Cougars’ leading scorer with 18 points, Tyler Hill had 14, and Kasen Black chipped in 13.
In the seventh place game, Mammoth Spring fell to Cedar Ridge 56-51. Gavin Boddie led the Bears with 25 points.

Melbourne’s girls were eliminated from the NEA Tournament at Jonesboro. The Lady Bearkatz lost their Division II semifinal game to Nettleton 41-37.

The North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament wrapped up its quarterfinal round at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. On the boys’ side, top-seeded Bergman topped Omaha 76-39, and Valley Springs got past Jasper 67-64. In the girls’ games, Valley Springs beat up on Alpena 66-45, and Jasper fell to Kingston 55-50.

Three area girls’ teams competed on the third day of the Pink and White Tournament in Springfield. In the Pink Bracket, West Plains lost its semifinal game to Nixa 61-47, and Ava beat Marshfield 36-32. Branson was eliminated from the White Bracket with a 69-64 loss to Springfield Parkview in the consolation semifinals.

The Branson boys lost the Gold Division’s consolation final in the Blue and Gold Tournament at Springfield. The Pirates fell to Willard 57-50.
