
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams began their conference slate on a rough note as they were swept at Siloam Springs.
The Lady Bombers began by falling to the Lady Panthers 52-47. Despite the fact that Mountain Home committed 21 turnovers, the game was never too far out of reach. There were actually four lead changes and six ties between the two teams. Siloam Springs was up nine at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Bombers held on as long as they could, but the Lady Panthers came away with the five-point victory.
Laykin Moore led Mountain Home with 13 points, Parker Huskey scored 12, and Lauren Wehmeyer added 10. Brooke Ross had 19 points for Siloam Springs, and Mimo Jacklik chipped in 11.
The Lady Bombers fall to 9-8 on the season and 0-1 in the 5A-West. The Lady Panthers improve to 8-7 and 1-0.
The night ended with Mountain Home losing the boys’ game to Siloam Springs 64-51. Early on, the Bombers doing the better job of getting to the boards. That drastically changed as the game continued. The Panthers outrebounded Mountain Home 30-21 on the night, and several came on the offensive end to give themselves multiple second chance. In addition, Siloam Springs only committed eight turnovers and eventually pulled away for the 13-point win.
The Bombers were led by Braiden Dewey with 15 points, and McGee Harris provided 12. Dalton Newman posted 24 points for the Panthers, and Nate Vachon finished with 20.
Mountain Home drops to 9-8 on the year and 0-1 in the league. Siloam Springs is now 9-6 and 1-0.
Both Bomber teams will return to the road Tuesday for an outing with Harrison.
In other 5A-West boys’ action, Harrison beat Alma 54-46, Greenbrier topped Van Buren 46-37, and Russellville defeated Greenwood 50-37. On the girls’ side, Harrison fell to Alma 39-34, Van Buren beat Greenbrier 41-31, and Greenwood beat up on Russellville 77-42.
