The Cotter School Board met in regular session Thursday evening at 7.

During the meeting, Superintendent Jayme Jones presented the board with certificates of appreciation for their service to the Cotter School District for the school year of 2022-2023. All board members completed the six hours of continuing education credit required during the 2022 calendar year.

The board unanimously approved a few items including the minutes from the Dec. 2022 board meeting, the financial reports from December and staff recommendations submitted on the personnel report.

The board also approved the proposed 2023-2024 budget of estimated expenses and the 2022-2023 revised district calendar. The revision included moving the parent, teacher conferences from Feb. 9 to Feb. 16, which also required adjusting the professional development, or flex, day from Feb. 10 to Feb. 17. The scheduling conflict was said to be unforeseeable as the Jr. High Basketball tournament are set by the AAA and the rotation for the hosting school is set by basketball district bylaws. The report states hosting the tournament on the same week as parent, teacher conferences creates multiple problems including conflict for parents, multiple staff members, parking and more. The staff vote was 91.1% in favor of the change.

Other items on the agenda including reviewing the extension of the lease agreement for the modular building for another 12 months; an update on Enhanced Student Achievement; new building progress; the new student drop-off route, and other miscellaneous information.

A recommendation for Superintendent Jones’ contract to be extended for three years was presented by board member Allen Franks and a salary of $96,883 adjustment per year was also recommended, which the board approved unanimously.

Superintendent Jones also reported the elementary enrollment is at 391 and the High School enrollment is at 323 for a total enrollment of 714.
