
Mountain Home Christian Academy came away with two wins as they played three basketball games Friday against another group of Eagles at Mountain Grove Christian.
Mountain Home Christian took the varsity boys’ game 78-69. Kolby Woods led Mountain Home Christian with 28 points and 14 rebounds, Jordan Woods scored 23 points and grabbed 15 boards, and Riley Peglar added 14 points.
Mountain Home Christian did not fare as well in the girls’ contest as they were edged out by Mountain Grove Christian 35-32. Mountain Home Christian was led by Ashley Joiner with 15 points.
The evening began with Mountain Home Christian’s junior boys topping Mountain Grove Christian 46-28. Evan Palella was Mountain Home Christian’s top scorer with 16 points, and Konner Woods chipped in 14.
The Cotter High School girls had a long and tough road trip to Centerton to play another group of Lady Warriors from Life Way Christian. Cotter ended up falling 51-29.
Two area girls’ teams wrapped up pool play in the Nixa Invitational Tournament. Norfork, the second-ranked team in Class 1A by the Arkansas Sports Media, suffered a 38-34 loss to Cape Girardeau Notre Dame, the fifth-ranked team in Class 5 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. West Plains, currently third in Class 5, fell 67-45 to Park Hills South, the seventh-ranked team in Class 6.
The Flippin High School teams ended up getting swept at home by Valley Springs. The Bobcat boys lost a close game to the Tigers 62-59. The night wasn’t any better for Flippin’s girls as they fell to Valley Springs 67-48.
Yellville-Summit ended up splitting its high school games with Eureka Springs. The Lady Panthers invoked the mercy rule as they routed the Lady Highlanders 60-22. The Yellville-Summit boys were edged out by Eureka Springs 43-41.
Viola’s girls were able to pick up another conference win on the road. The Lady Longhorns went to Greers Ferry and beat West Side 56-50.
The Bakersfield girls finished the week as the runners-up of the Cabool Classic. The Lady Lions lost to top-seeded Norwood 53-22.
Gainesville’s boys came up just short on their homecoming night. The Bulldogs fell to Mountain Grove 44-42.
Salem was able to sweep its high school games over Melbourne. The Lady Greyhounds, currently ranked third in Class 3A, defeated the Lady Bearkatz 71-63. The Salem boys followed with a 59-52 victory over Melbourne.
Izard County came away with a three-game sweep over White County Central.
The Cougars won the senior boys’ game over the Bears 56-48. Wyatt Buchanan was Izard County’s top scorer with 18 points, Keaton Melton had 12, and Jude Everett provided 11.
The senior girls’ contest was more lopsided as Izard County pounded White County Central 64-37. The Lady Cougars were led by Quinn Johnson with 20 points, Katie Orf finished with 14, and Tinley Bailey ended up with 10.
Izard County’s junior boys put the mercy rule in effect as they clinched the 2A-2 conference championship outright with a 50-20 win over White County Central. Garrett Dillard was the Junior Cougars’ leading scorer with 14 points, and Braxton McCandlis added 10. Izard County improves to 12-3 on the season and 7-0 in the league.
Mammoth Spring had mixed results as they played a pair of high school games at Marked Tree.
The Lady Bears, currently No. 1 in Class 1A, topped the Lady Indians 58-43. Brynn Washam led Mammoth Spring with 27 points, and Sara Crowe chipped in 12.
Mammoth Spring had a different result in the boys’ game as they fell to Marked Tree 78-54. The Bears were led by Blake Rogers with 14 points, and Garet O’Dell scored 12.
Marshall split its high school games at home with Mount Vernon-Enola. The Bears, currently ranked fourth in Class 2A, beat the Warhawks 55-48 in the boys’ game. Marshall’s girls were not as fortunate as they lost 74-45 to Mount Vernon-Enola, the No. 1 team in Class 2A.
Lead Hill ended up getting swept at home by Kingston.
The Tigers fell to the Yellowjackets in the boys’ game 57-48. Quintin Sewell was the Tigers’ top scorer with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaden Baker also grabbed 10 boards.
The night wasn’t any better for Lead Hill in the girls’ game as they lost to Kingston 49-23.
