MHHS sweeps Alma on Sweetheart Royalty Night

Friday was a successful Sweetheart Royalty Night for the Mountain Home High School basketball teams as they pulled off a sweep over Alma.

The Bomber boys were able to get past the Airedales 48-44. Scoring wasn’t easy for either team early on, but Mountain Home ended the first quarter with a five point lead and later went into the locker room up seven. Alma hung around as they kept the margin within single digits for most of the game. In the last few seconds of the contest, the Bombers were up two as the Airedales were forced to foul. Blaine Tate canned both free throws to put the game out of reach.

Braiden Dewey led Mountain Home with 19 points. Israel Towns-Robinson scored 11 for Alma.

The Bombers improve to 12-10 on the season and 3-3 in the 5A-West. The Airedales fall to 4-16 and 1-5.

Mountain Home’s girls began the night by topping Alma 59-36. The Lady Bombers struggled in the early going as the Lady Airedales scored the first eight points of the game. Mountain Home didn’t get its first basket until nearly five minutes into the contest. Things changed in the second quarter as the Lady Bombers outscored Alma 14-4 in the second quarter and went up two at the break. Mountain Home stepped up the pressure as they forced the Lady Airedales into 21 turnovers on the night. The Lady Bombers also outrebounded Alma 30-18. Mountain Home started pulling away as they hit six three-pointers in the third period. The Lady Bombers held the Lady Airedales to five points in the final period as they went on to win by 23.

Mountain Home was led by Laykin Moore with 18 points, and Amelia Rucker and Parker Huskey each added 12. Jordan Gramlich had 11 points for Alma.

The Lady Bombers are now 12-10 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Lady Airedales drop to 6-12 and 2-4.

Mountain Home returns to the road on Monday for a pair of makeup games at Greenbrier.

In other 5A-West girls’ action, Harrison fell to Siloam Springs 58-41, Greenwood thrashed Greenbrier 65-25, and Russellville squeaked by Van Buren 38-36. On the boys’ side, Harrison was edged out by Siloam Springs 49-46, Greenbrier topped Greenwood 51-43, and Russellville beat Van Buren 58-47.
