On Thursday, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed House Bill 1023, which is an act requiring flags purchased with public funds to be made and manufactured in the United States.
The bill sponsored by local representatives Jack Fortner, Stetson Painter and Scott Flippo was introduced in December 2022. In early January the bill passed in the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs and received a 93-2 vote in the house. The legislation was passed unanimously in the State Senate on Wednesday.
The bill applies to purchases made by public entities, including local government agencies, courts and school districts. The law does not contain an emergency clause and it will go into effect 90 days after the final official day of regular session.
