Positive trends continue for Baxter County and MH sales tax revenue

The positive trends have continued for Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home’s sales tax revenue.

According to Alma Clark, the City of Mountain Home’s Director of Finance and Treasury, the city collected a total of $560,067 in city sales tax revenue for January which is an increase of 6.58% from this time last year. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $34,573 which is an increase of 6.58%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $472,345 which is an increase of 2.9% in sales tax revenue compared to the January 2022 collection of $458,956.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in January, which reflect area spending from the month of November.

Mountain Home received $254,757 which is an increase of 4.7%, or $11,404 compared to last year’s total of $243,353 in January revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax. Year-to-date, Mountain home has collected $3.097 million of the City’s portion of the county sales tax.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $43,253;

– Cotter, which received $17,652;

– Lakeview, which received $15,440;

– Salesville, which received $9,423;

– Norfork, which received $9,264;

– Briarcliff, which received $4,701; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,753.

Baxter County received $207,338 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $210,025 for January from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $197,060 which is a total year-to-date increase of 6.58%.

Mountain Home has collected $280,003 for January from the park improvement sales tax, which is $59,643 more than needed for Bond Payment of $220,390.

Park operation sales tax for January equals $140,0167.
