Former area resident among winners at Grammy Awards

A former area resident was among the winners at the biggest award show in the music industry. Ashley McBryde, who was raised in Mammoth Spring, joined Carly Pearce in winning the award for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance during the 65th-annual Grammy Awards on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

McBryde and Pearce received the award for the song “Never Wanted to Be That Girl.” They co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally, and it was released as single on Pearce’s third album, “29: Written in Stone.” It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart in May. According to UDiscoverMusic, it was McBryde’s first time at the top of the chart and Pearce’s third.

The duet performance been honored during November’s Country Music Association Awards in Nashville, Tenn. It received four nominations and won the award for Musical Event of the Year.
