
The Mountain Home freshman girls’ basketball program is one win away from repeating as champions of the Northeast Arkansas District Tournament. The Junior Lady Bombers defeated West Memphis West in the semifinals 44-24 on Thursday. Jayla Yonkers led Mountain Home with 10 points. The Junior Lady Bombers will play for the district title Saturday at Marion.
Cotter hosted the semifinals of the 2A-1 Junior District Tournament on Thursday. On the girls’ side, the host Junior Lady Warriors fell to Ozark Mountain 34-29, and Yellville-Summit breezed past Life Way Christian 46-20. On the boys’ bracket, Yellville-Summit topped Life Way Christian 43-28, and Ozark Mountain beat Haas Hall-Bentonville 42-27.
Izard County’s boys rallied from a 13-point third quarter deficit to claim the championship of the 2A-2 Junior District Tournament. The Junior Cougars squeaked by South Side-Bee Branch 46-44 at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden. Izard County was led by Garrett Dillard with 15 points, Sebastian Nussbickel scored 12, and Braxton McCandlis added 11. The Junior Cougars finish the season at 16-3.
Mammoth Spring had mixed results in the semifinals of the 1A-3 Junior District Tournament at Crowley’s Ridge Academy in Paragould. The Junior Lady Bears advanced to the championship game with a 35-10 win over Armorel. On the boys’ side, top-seeded Mammoth Spring was upset by Crowley’s Ridge Academy 40-23.
