
The postseason began Monday for several high school basketball teams in Arkansas with the start of district tournament play.
The 1A-2 District Tournament got underway at Viola.
Norfork’s boys watched their season come to an end as they were edged out by the host Longhorns 40-39. Layne Scalf led the Panthers with 15 points. Norfork’s final record is 4-20. Viola improves to 6-20 on the season.
Timbo was one and done in the other boys’ game with a 59-35 loss to Rural Special. The Tigers were led by Riley Callahan with 10 points. Cole Linville scored 16 points for the Rebels, Kasen Stevens had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Jacob Morris added 15 points.
Calico Rock advanced to the next round of the girls’ bracket after beating Greers Ferry West Side 45-37. Lyrick Stapleton was the Lady Pirates’ top scorer with 12 points, and Greysen Sanders chipped in 10. Calico Rock is now 4-24 on the year.
Timbo was eliminated from the tournament in the other girls’ contest. The Lady Tigers ended up losing to Shirley 48-18.
The season ended for Salem’s boys on the opening night of the 3A-2 District Tournament at Cave City. The Greyhounds fell to the host Cavemen 55-46.
Izard County had mixed results to begin the 2A-2 District Tournament at White County Central High School in Providence.
The Lady Cougars advanced with a 51-40 victory over Sloan-Hendrix. Makensie Yancey paced Izard County with 19 points, Katie Orf provided 12, and Quinn Johnson finished with 10. The Lady Cougars are now 10-16 on the year.
Izard County did not fare as well on the boys’ side as they lost to Quitman 81-66. The Cougars were led by Kasen Black with 21 points, and Keaton Melton ended up with 15. Izard County’s season ends at 11-18.
The Lead Hill boys dominated their opener in the 1A-1 East District Tournament at Mount Judea. The Tigers invoked the mercy rule as they routed the host Eagles 63-22.
