
Saturday’s high school basketball action ended with five area teams advancing to state championship games.
The Class 1A State Tournament at Ozark has resulted in a rematch from last year’s championship game between two area girls’ teams.
Norfork will be at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs for the third consecutive year after defeating Rural Special 55-26. The Lady Panthers improve to 32-7 on the season.
Mammoth Spring will be Norfork’s opponent in the title game for the second straight year after they routed Wonderview 75-38. Brynn Washam led the Lady Bears with 24 points, Laney Young scored 17, Tay Davis had 16, and Sara Crowe added 12.
Norfork and Mammoth Spring are scheduled to tip off Friday evening at 6.
Three area teams competed in the semifinals of the Class 3A State Tournament at Lamar.
Salem’s girls punched their ticket to the championship game after breezing past Glen Rose 65-38. The Lady Greyhounds were led by Maddie Keen with 26 points, and Marleigh Sellars chipped in 23.
The other girls’ game finished with Bergman’s defense of last year’s state title coming to an end. The Lady Panthers were edged out by Lamar 41-39.
Salem will meet the Lady Warriors in Hot Springs next Saturday evening at 6.
Bergman fared better on the boys’ side as they will be going to Bank OZK Arena next week. The Panthers beat Rivercrest 74-58, and they’ll be paired with Manila for the title next Saturday evening at 7:30.
Marshall’s boys will be the fifth area team to be playing at Hot Springs next weekend. In the Class 2A State Tournament at Rector, the Bobcats eliminated Earle 55-46. Marshall’s last opponent will be Bigelow next Saturday afternoon at 1:30.
The Harrison boys watched their season come to an end in the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament at Pine Bluff. The Goblins fell to Lake Hamilton 65-58.
In Missouri, West Plains’ girls are one win away from returning to the state tournament to defend their title from last year. The top-seeded Lady Zizzers competed in the semifinals of the Class 5, District 6 Tournament at Marshfield and topped Branson 64-44. West Plains improves to 21-7, and they’ll face Rolla for the district title on Tuesday. Branson’s season ends at 13-14.
The Ava girls claimed the championship of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at Mountain Grove. The Lady Bears defeated Logan-Rogersville 47-40. Ava is now 24-4 on the year, and they’ll be on the Missouri S&T campus at Rolla on Tuesday as they meet Aurora in the sectional round of the Class 4 State Tournament.
