1 rainfall record, 3 confirmed tornadoes, 1 day of snowfall recorded in February

One weather record was broken in February. In addition, the month had three confirmed tornadoes in the area and one day of measurable snowfall.

At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home, 2.54 inches of rain were recorded on Feb. 9. That doubled the day’s previous record of 1.27 inches in 1965.

The Twin Lakes Area’s rainfall for the month was 5.03 inches. That is 1.77 above February’s average rainfall of 3.26 inches. The total precipitation total for the first two months of 2023 is 9.59 inches. That is 3.03 above the average of 6.56 inches.

Three tornadoes were confirmed in the early morning hours of Feb. 16. The strongest was an EF-2 tornado, touching down near Pindall in Searcy County and heading near Bruno in Marion County, resulting in injuries to two individuals. A pair of EF-1 tornadoes also struck Searcy and Newton counties.

The first day of the month was February’s only recorded snowfall at a half-inch. That is 2.1 inches below the month’s average of 2.6 inches.

February had four days in which the temperature reached at least 70. The warmest reading was 74 degrees recorded on Feb. 16, and the coldest was 18 on Feb. 1. The average high for the month was 54.5 degrees, and the average low was 33.3.
