A national magazine has released a list of the top small towns in the south and Mountain Home has made the list. Southern Living magazine released its “50 Best Small Towns In The South 2023” article Tuesday.
Mountain Home is ranked number 38 in the top 50, one of just three towns in Arkansas to be listed.
The article says “Forget about size. These 50 Southern towns may be small (some are technically villages) but each one has its own distinct story to tell. We asked our readers to share their favorites, and this wide-ranging list captures the wonderful diversity of our region.”
Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dani Pugsley says with so much going on in the area, it’s not surprising people from outside of the region are hearing about the Mountain Home area.

The article says of Mountain Home “Waterways like Bull Shoals Lake, Norfork Lake, and the White River surround this small town, which got its start as a resort. It lured folks in with opportunities for fishing and boating, activities that still power tourism here in the southern stretches of the Ozark Mountains.”
In addition to the area waterways, the article talks about resorts in the area, other outdoor activities, the thriving downtown area, shopping and restaurants.
Other Arkansas towns to make the top 50 include Hot Springs at number 19 and Eureka Springs at number 17.
The top city on the list is St. Augustine, Florida.
