Class 5A titles captured by Greenwood girls, Pine Bluff boys

The first day of Arkansas’ high school basketball state championships wrapped up with the Class 5A games Thursday night in Hot Springs.

Greenwood’s girls breezed their way past Vilonia 58-35 for their second straight title and third in four years. Anna Trusty was the Lady Bulldogs’ top scorer with 17 points, Mady Cartwright and Carley Sexton each had 13, and Brooklyn Woolsey added 12. Cartwright was selected as the game’s most valuable player. Kinley Mears scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles. Greenwood concludes its season at 31-2, and Vilonia ends up 28-5.

The boys’ championship was captured by Pine Bluff as they topped Lake Hamilton 67-51. X’Zaevion Barnett paced the Zebras with 19 points, Courtney Crutchfield was named the MVP with 16 points, Jordan Harris chipped in 13 points, and Deriyon Graydon grabbed 12 rebounds. Ty Robinson provided 17 points for the Wolves. Pine Bluff’s season ends at 25-7, and Lake Hamilton falls to 27-5.
