A 24-year-old Marion County woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing money from a piggy bank and multiple electronics.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Chastain Haarstad has been booked into the Marion County Detention Center after stealing $1500 from a piggy bank and an Apple Watch.

On Jan. 23, deputies took a report of a theft from a residence along North College Street. Upon arrival authorities met with the victim who stated she had been letting Haarstad dog sit and babysit for her and her husband for a couple of years. She stated she started noticing items missing from her house for a while and when she went to look in her piggy bank, she noticed $1,500 missing from it.

When the victim confronted Haarstad about the missing items, Haarstad allegedly became agitated and defensive. Haarstad then returned a few items a couple of days later but still did not return the Apple watch. The victim states the watch is valued at $1,000 and is linked to an account in Haarstad’s name therefore prohibiting her from accessing it.

Haarstad is facing a felony count of theft of property $5,000 or less but greater than $1,000.

She has been released on a $2,500 bond.
