Izard County baseball, softball teams top White County Central

Izard County had a good day on Tuesday as their baseball and softball teams came away with victories over White County Central.

On the baseball diamond, the Cougars invoked the mercy rule in the fifth inning by shutting out the Bears 14-0. Tyler Morehead got the win by pitching a complete game, striking out seven batters and giving up two hits. Morehead also provided plenty of offense with two hits, a run and an RBI. Garrett Roberts scored two runs and drove in four more; Noah Mosley provided a double, three runs and an RBI; Gavin Stephens and Caden Wiseman each had a hit, a run and an RBI; Xander McCandlis and Wyatt Buchanan each scored a run and drove in another; Kasen Black added a hit; and Porter Burton scored three runs.

Izard County’s softball team beat White County Central 16-10. Quinn Johnson picked up the win in the circle with a complete game, eight strikeouts, four hits and three earned runs. Makensie Yancey led the Lady Cougars with four hits and four runs, including a solo home run; Abbie Gilbert added three hits, including a home run, with three runs and three RBIs; Emily Stephens provided three hits, scored two runs and drove in another; Quinn Johnson had two hits, including a home run, with two runs and three RBIs; Megan McBride and Julia Setzer each finished with two hits, a run and two RBIs; Tinley Bailey added two hits and scored a run; and Hollie Johnson scored a run and drove in two more.
