Baxter Co. Sheriff seeking public assistance in theft investigation

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft investigation.

According to Sheriff John Montgomery, the crime took place at the intersection of State Highway 5 North and Canvasback Drive in Mountain Home.

The press release states sometime between Saturday morning at 10 and Sunday morning at 11:30, last weekend, someone entered a construction work site where the clearing of brush and trees had been ongoing. The person gained unauthorized access to heavy equipment and used it to steal 40 pieces of 20 foot long oak logs stacked in the area.

One piece of equipment was also damaged in the process.

Officials state a bull dozer, track-hoe and heavy duty trailer were parked at the location.

Sheriff’s investigators have collected evidence from the scene and have heard from one witness, but additional witnesses are being sought.
