Local pharmacist discusses possible end of at-home free COVID tests

The end might be near for free at-home COVID tests. With the national and public health emergency set to end May 11, the at-home COVID tests many area residents have used may no longer be free.

Wendy Barr is Pharmacy Manager at Harp’s and says now is the time to get the tests while private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare still cover the costs.

Most insurance plans currently cover eight tests per month for each insured person. If insurance companies do not extend their 100% coverage of COVID tests after May 11, the cost to consumers will generally be from $8 to $25 each in the Twin Lakes Area.
