Melbourne boys, Mountain View girls win 3A-2 Conference Meet

Three area high schools sent their track teams to Pocahontas on Tuesday for the 3A-2 Conference Meet.

Melbourne captured the boys’ title. Salem finished third, and Mountain View was sixth.

Individually for the Greyhouds, Elijah Romine won the triple jump and ended up second in the 110-meter hurdles, and Aiden Dailey took third place in the 100-meter dash. The team of Dailey, Lukas Downs, Ethan Birmingham and Cole Stemen finished third in the 4×400-meter relay; and Caleb Leisenring, Dailey, Kaiden Hollis and Romine were third in the 4×100-meter relay.

For Melbourne, Shawn Wortham won the 800-meter and 3200-meter runs, Nathan Woodall won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles and ended up third in the high jump and triple jump, Buck Campbell won the shot put, Brycen Young won the pole vault, Dawson Cooper took second place in the pole vault and the 400-meter dash, Kale Caraway finished second in the 800-meter run, and Nic Sitton was third in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. The team of Wortham, Sitton, Caraway and Cooper won the 4×800-meter relay; Cooper, Fernando Ventura, Caraway and Woodall won the 4×400-meter relay; and Ventura, Carson Davis, Cash Fowler and Dalton Tate ended up third in the 4×200-meter relay.

For Mountain View, Caymyn Vickers won the 400-meter dash, Drew Isbell took second place in the 100-meter dash, and Cole Hubberd finished third in the 300-meter hurdles. The team of Sam Fletcher, Chad Russell, Vickers and Ladd Cook was second in the 4×800-meter relay; and Russell, Hubberd, Fletcher and Isbell ended up second in the 4×200-meter relay.

Mountain View won the conference championship on the girls’ side. Melbourne took third place, and Salem finished fourth.

Individually for the Lady Greyhounds, Marleigh Sellars won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes; Madi Price won the shot put and was second in the discus; and Chloe Taylor ended up second in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. The team of Olivia Dockins, Taylor, Katy Walling and Montana Franks won the 4×200-meter relay; and Walling, Sellars, Dockins and Taylor won the 4×100-meter relay.

For Melbourne, Maci Webb won the pole vault and took second place in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the triple jump, Taylor Youngblood finished second in the shot put, and Madison Woodall was third in the pole vault. The team of Sophie Love, Abby Bailey, Madalyn Simmons and Kenzie Adams ended up second in the 4×800-meter relay.

For Mountain View, Ellie Akins won the 800-meter, 1600-meter runs and 3200-meter runs; Kaitlyn McCarn won the 300-meter hurdles and took second place in the high jump and long jump and third in the discus and the 100-meter hurdles; and Emma Akins won the triple jump and finished second in the pole vault and the 800-meter run and third in the 400-meter dash. The team of Ellie Akins, Emma Akins, McCarn and Jaci Cooper won the 4×400-meter relay.
