
A few area high school baseball and softball teams were in state tournament play on Friday.
The Class 1A State Baseball Tournament is being hosted by Taylor. Norfork watched its season come to an end as they fell to Nemo Vista 8-1. Viola was able to advance after shutting out Wonderview 2-0. Lead Hill was one and done with a 25-3 defeat at the hands of Taylor.
Melbourne’s baseball team was one and done in the Class 3A State Tournament hosted by Lincoln. The Bearkatz suffered a 5-1 loss to Central Arkansas Christian.
Three area softball teams began action in the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Taylor. Viola moved on to the quarterfinals after blanking Nemo Vista 2-0. Calico Rock also advanced to the next round by defeating Bradford 12-5. Jasper’s season ended as they fell 12-4 to another group of Lady Pirates from Emerson.
The Valley Springs softball team was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A State Tournament at Lincoln. The Lady Tigers lost to Lamar 3-0.
Harrison’s softball team was bounced from the quarterfinals of the Class 5A State Tournament at Marion. The Lady Goblins fell to Benton 10-0.
