
The season came to a tough end for the Mountain Home High School boys’ soccer team on Friday at Nettleton High School in Jonesboro. After the Bombers’ quarterfinal match in the Class 5A State Tournament remained tied at 2-2 after double overtime, they lost the penalty kick shootout to Hot Springs 6-5.
The Trojans struck first 51 seconds into the match. Mountain Home tied the game up just over a minute into the second half on a penalty kick by James Douglas. Hot Springs went back on top with about 33 1/2 minutes left in regulation, but the match was knotted back up after William Bevel scored off a header.
The score remained 2-2 through the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods. Both teams were a perfect 5-for-5 in the penalty kick shootout, forcing sudden death. The next kick by Sergi Carmona was saved by Hot Springs’ goalkeeper. The Trojans scored the ensuing kick to get the victory.
The Bombers’ final record for 2023 is 17-7-2.
Harrison’s girls also played in the quarterfinals at Nettleton. The Lady Goblins were able to beat Little Rock Christian 4-1.
The Mountain View boys were bounced from the quarterfinals of the Class 3A State Tournament at Harrison. The Yellowjackets fell to Green Forest 10-0.
