Saturday’s graduation ceremonies will be significant for the Ozark Mountain School District. The 2023 commencement ceremonies for Bruno-Pyatt, St. Joe and Western Grove will be the final graduations as three separate high schools.
During its December session, the Ozark Mountain School Board decided by a vote of 4-3 to close the classes for seventh through 12th graders at the Bruno-Pyatt campus in Eros and the St. Joe campus. That decision was approved unanimously by the Arkansas State Board of Education nearly two months later.
Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, all of the district’s junior high and high school students will be moved to the Western Grove campus. All three campuses will keep their classes in kindergarten through sixth grade open.
Bruno-Pyatt will have the first commencement at noon as 12 students will take the final walk through its gym. Ethan Brumley is the valedictorian, and Kaylee Wilson is the salutatorian. The class is being awarded a total of $196,908 in scholarship money. The combined total of scholarships and grants is $402,978.
St. Joe will take its turn at 2 as five students will receive their diplomas. The class’ scholarship money totals $54,324. The combined total of scholarships and grants is $113,484.
Seventeen seniors will walk during the district’s final commencement ceremony at Western Grove starting at 4. Grace Bradshaw is the valedictorian, and Joseph Breer is the salutatorian. Western Grove’s seniors have total potential value of $183,750 in scholarships. The total potential value of grants and scholarships for the class of 2023 is $381,410.
