A woman arrested earlier this month in Fulton County for the murder of a man near Viola has picked up an additional charge for the theft of the victim’s car. Thirty-year-old Stacie Nicole Hickman is already facing charges of murder in the first degree and abuse of a corpse in the death of David Southerland.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Hickman was arrested the day after Southerland’s body was found as she sat in his car that had been reported stolen. A Salem Police officer spotted the car at the state highway department building. Hickman was taken into custody without incident.
Southerland’s body was found the previous day at a residence on Briarwood Road just north of Viola. The victim had at least one wound to his back and had been severely beaten in the head. There was also a piece of barbed wire around his neck and law enforcement say an attempt had been made to burn his body.
The new charge against Hickman is a felony count of theft by receiving. She is being held in the Fulton County Jail on a $1 million bond.
