A Mountain Home woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing numerous items from her deceased father’s home.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was notified of missing items, primarily firearms, from the caller’s deceased father’s home. The caller stated he returned to the property from out of town and discovered numerous firearms, ammunition and gun cases missing.
The victim told authorities he suspected his sister, identified as 39-year-old Erika Rorie, could be responsible for the theft. A neighbor had told the victim they had seen Rorie along with a male subject, later identified as Terry Shumate, at the residence approximately a month ago in the driveway in a gray vehicle.
A few days prior to the report, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Clarkridge area for a reported aggravated assault and burglary, where the property owner had witnessed two male subjects, one being Shumate, stealing items from his property. The suspects fled in a gray sedan, with the property owner pursing them. During the arrest of Shumate, two of the firearms reported stolen, a pistol and an AR-15, were located in the vehicle.
During an interview with Rorie, she admitted she and Shumate had gone into the home, taking several items including painting supplies, tools, flowerpots, food items, jewelry and fishing equipment, but denied taking firearms. However, the victim stated Rorie had sent him a text message admitting to having the firearms in her possession.
Shumate told authorities he and Rorie had gone to the residence and took several items including a pistol, but alleged he had seen the AR-15 at Rorie’s home prior to the theft.
Rorie faces multiple felony charges including one count of residential burglary, 10 counts of theft of property and one count of possession of a firearm by certain persons. She was released from the Baxter County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
