Baxter Co. man faces multiple felonies for battery, terroristic threatening

A Baxter County man is facing multiple felony charges of domestic battery and terroristic threatening after an argument led to the hospitalization of a woman who suffered extensive injuries.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 7 dispatched advised the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office a patient in the ICU needed to make a report. The victim told deputies while her and a male, identified as 58-year-old Todd Goff, were packing he lost his temper and began destroying property.

The victim reported Goff allegedly grabbed her by the throat and took her phone so she wouldn’t be able to call 911. She admitted to then going outside and beating Goff’s truck with a sledgehammer. Goff allegedly grabbed the victim’s throat for a second time, causing her to fall to the ground. A witness on the scene was able to remove the victim from the scene and take her to the hospital. She was later transported to a hospital in Springfield for further treatment.

Witness accounts state the night before the incident, the victim stayed with them due to an argument between her and Goff about a gun he wanted to purchase. The victim told Goff he could not own a gun due to being a convicted felon.

The witness stated on May 29 she took the victim to her house so they could continue to pack, as the house had been sold. Goff, who was supposed to help with the move, told the victim he was going to break things in house. The witness attempted to call 911 when Goff grabbed twisted her hand and took her cell phone. The victim went outside, yelled at Goff to stop and began to hitting the tires on his vehicle with a hammer. Goff followed her screaming and hollering when the witness observed him grab the victim by throat and push her against the vehicle with force. When he let her go, the victim fell to the ground, causing the witness to believe Goff fractured her neck.

The witness stated when they tried to leave, Goff still had their cell phones and would not return them. She stated attempted to get into her truck to go down to the neighbors for help, but Goff allegedly stopped her by slamming the door shut before she could get in. Goff stated he was not going to let her in the truck and told her “she was not calling the law to have him thrown in jail.” Goff eventually gave back her phone, but allegedly shattered the back window of the victim’s vehicle in the process. The victim stayed with the witness that night and stated she was so sore she couldn’t move.

The next day the witness stated the victim was unable to stand so she called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. The victim was treated and released the same day.

Four days later, the victim went back to the hospital where she ended up having surgery and transferred to a hospital in Springfield. During an interview the witness told investigators she would not tell Goff she spoke to law enforcement as she feared Goff would kill her. She stated he had allegedly threatened to kill both her and the victim on multiple occasions. The witness shared audio of the threats with law enforcement.

The victim told authorities Goff has threatened and physically harmed her in the past but not like this.

Goff is facing multiple felonies including three counts of domestic battering and 16 counts of terroristic threatening. He is also being charged with two misdemeanor counts of interference with emergency communication, one misdemeanor count of third degree battery and one misdemeanor of false imprisonment. He is currently being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on $50,450 bond.
