
An area high school will have an addition to its athletic department when the school year begins. The Omaha School District will start its inaugural season of high school volleyball this fall.
Superintendent Ryan Huff says the addition of volleyball was a natural progression since several girls have already been playing it as a club sport. He says some parents have also shown interest in adding volleyball.

Omaha is the latest of a growing trend of area high school athletic departments adding volleyball. Bakersfield, Gainesville and Dora started fielding the sport last year, and Melbourne began its volleyball program in 2021.
Huff says being able to give students more choices to compete in athletics is a positive for the district and its athletes.

Sara Hamilton has been hired as Omaha’s first head coach. Hamilton will begin the Lady Eagles’ program with 20 years coaching experience at all levels, including high school and club volleyball. Most recently, she coached for the Extreme Slam Volleyball Club in Harrison.
