A local theater is celebrating more than a half century of presenting stage productions in the area. The Twin Lakes Playhouse is considered a local treasure giving the countless people over its history the opportunity to express their unique gifts and talents.
The playhouse was founded in 1971 by George Smith. It started its productions at Mountain Home High School Career Academies, but relocation was needed once that auditorium was turned into classrooms. The Ramada Inn was the next location for its plays until 1984, when they moved to a building purchased five years earlier in Midway. The playhouse has been at its current location on West Sixth Street in Mountain Home since 2000.
Twin Lakes Playhouse Board of Directors Chairwoman Anne Johnson and member Cindy Young were recent guests of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. Young says the playhouse gives an opportunity for an extracurricular activity that area youth might not otherwise have.

Johnson says in addition to the youth, the playhouse can also have a positive impact on the elderly population.

The playhouse is always looking for volunteers to participate in their productions. Young says you don’t have to be an actor or actress to take part.
