The Mountain Home MacLeod American Legion baseball team’s quest for a state title came up one win short Sunday at Conway. In a battle between the two wild cards, MacLeod fell to Lake Hamilton 11-1 in the championship game of the Arkansas 17-and-Under State Tournament on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas.

After Lake Hamilton scored the first two runs of the game, Mountain Home cut the margin in half in the third inning. Carter Atkins reached base after being hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a single by Cory Jines, and Nate Henderson drove him home after reaching on a fielder’s choice. MacLeod would get no closer as Lake Hamilton scored nine unanswered runs.

Ty Tilton suffered the loss as he pitched 5 2/3 innings, struck out four batters and gave up eight hits, two walks and six earned runs. Jines led the Mountain Home offense by going 2-for-4.

Mountain Home’s Ian Ellison was named outstanding pitcher of the tournament. Ellison went 1-0, working 10 innings, allowing just eight hits, no earned runs and 10 strikeouts.
