
The 2023 edition of the Natural State’s most comprehensive football publication is on newsstands. Hooten’s Arkansas Football Magazine previews the upcoming season for high school teams (all 11-man and eight-man) and the college teams in the state. The biggest section of the magazine breaks down every 11-man high school football team and conference in Arkansas.
Mountain Home’s recent run of three straight posteason appearances is expected to be snapped after this year. The coaches predicted the Bombers to finish seventh in the 6A-West, and Hooten’s has them 13th in the Class 6A rankings. In addition, defensive lineman Robert Dover and linebacker Ty Hannaford are members of the Hootens.com Super Team in Class 6A. Greenwood is predicted to win the league title.
Three area schools are competing in the 3A-2.
Yellville-Summit is expected to miss postseason for the second straight year. The Panthers were selected by the coaches to finish seventh in the conference.
The coaches voted Salem to win the conference title this season, and the Hootens.com rankings have the Greyhounds at No. 9 in all of Class 3A. Also, linebacker Nolan Bassham is representing Salem on the Hootens.com Super Team for Class 3A.
After advancing to its first state semifinal last year, Melbourne is expected to return to the postseason with a third place finish in the 3A-2, and the Hootens.com rankings have the Bearkatz at No. 17 in Class 3A. Melbourne is also being represented on the Hootens.com Super Team for Class 3A by linebacker Robert Langston and defensive back Logan Seay.
Harrison is predicted by the coaches to get back in the postseason by finishing third in the 5A-West. The Goblins are also 17th in the Hootens.com Class 5A rankings. Braden Long is representing Harrison on the Class 5A Super Team as a running back. Shiloh Christian is picked to win the 5A-West.
This year’s issue is expanding its coverage eight-man football in the state, and two area teams that finished at the top of last year’s class are expected to do the same this season. After ending its inaugural season with the AAA-sanctioned state championship, Izard County was picked by the coaches to repeat this year. Among the unsanctioned teams, Mountain View was selected to win its second straight state title, and Marshall is ranked fifth.
Hooten’s Arkansas Football is expected to be available locally at Harps in Mountain Home, Yellville, Marshall, Mountain View, Bellefonte and Harrison; at Walmart in Mountain Home, Mountain View and Harrison; and at Miller’s Hometown Market in Melbourne.
