A Mountain Home man faces theft charges after allegedly stealing a wallet left in a shopping cart and making several purchases.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Mountain Home Police Department responded to a report on April 4 of theft of a wallet in the Walmart parking lot. The victim stated she accidentally left her wallet in the shopping cart when she returned to the cart holding bin. When she realized what she had done, she went to customer service to see if anyone had turned it in.

The victim contacted her bank to cancel the cards where she was advised purchases had already been made in multiple locations. One purchase was made at Flashback’s in the amount of $285 and another at Big Steve’s Gold and Pawn in the amount of $377.13. Staff from both businesses were able to identify the person using the card as 52-year-old Robert Irvin. A third purchase was later reported for $489.61 at TJ Maxx.

Video evidence from Walmart showed the victim pushing her cart to the bin and Irvin walking up, taking the cart to his vehicle. He was observed to leave the cart next to his vehicle and driving away. Video obtained from Big Steve’s Gold and Pawn showed Irvin purchasing a gold chain with the stolen card.

On April 18, Irvin was involved in a traffic stop where officers found the stolen cards located in his backpack. During a police interview, he admitted to authorities he took the wallet from the shopping cart where he had use $100 in cash to purchase lunch before going to the retail stores to make purchases for his girlfriend. In total, Irvin allegedly stolen $1,251.74.

Irvin faces a felony count of theft of property. He was booked and released from the Baxter County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
