The Mountain Home High School football team was able to start its season on a winning note Friday at Jonesboro. The Bombers came away with a 29-19 victory over Nettleton.
Mountain Home scored on its first possession of the game as Chris Hubbard ran the ball in from eight yards out. The Raiders answered with a touchdown on the next drive, but the Bombers kept the lead on a missed extra point. Mountain Home went up two possessions early in the second quarter after a touchdown was followed by a two-point conversion, and they got more distance nearly five minutes later on four-yard run by Barrett Miller. Nettleton cut the margin back to 10 just before halftime and later to three in the third quarter. The Bombers would go back up by double digits less than a minute into the final period on a 28-yard pass play from Cade Yates to Jett Hannaford, and that would be the last of the scoring as Mountain Home went on to the victory.
The Bombers outgained the Raiders in total yardage 509-326. Hubbard led Mountain Home with 28 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns, Yates was 17 of 29 through the air with 211 yards and a score, and Hannaford had four catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.
The Raiders start the year at 0-1. The Bombers improve to 1-0, and they’ll face Harrison for their home opener next week.
