A Mountain Home woman says she filed a false police report leading to her boyfriend’s arrest because he cheated on her. The incident by 37-year-old Jessika Lynn Shirley has now led to her arrest.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Shirley had called police in the early morning hours of Jan. 5 saying her boyfriend, Jonathan Cole Smith, was in the house, armed with a handgun. She said Smith was under the influence of drugs and she was scared he was going to hurt her and her son. Smith refused to leave the house, which led to a five-hour standoff with police. Smith eventually surrendered and was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threatening and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Aug. 9, Shirley wrote a letter to the court, saying she had made the whole story up to get revenge on Smith for cheating on her. When asked by investigators about the letter, Shirley confirmed she wrote it.

Shirley is facing a felony charge of filing a false report with law enforcement. She is free after posting a $25,000 bond.

Shirley also had a pair of misdemeanor failure to appear warrants out of Stone County. She was arrested a second time on those charges and then freed after posting $331 bond.
