Wednesday night, a “Super Blue Moon,” will be visible at approximately 8:35. This will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year.

According to NASA, a cycle of the phases of the moon lasts approximately one month and typically experience 12 full moons each year. Every two and half years, a 13th full moon is observed within a calendar year. A second full moon in a calendar month is referred to as a Blue Moon.

The moon will be closest to Earth for this orbit Wednesday morning at 11:55. NASA states the moon will appear full for three days, from Tuesday to Friday morning. They say about 25% of all full moons are supermoons, but only 3% of full moons are blue moons.

The last time two full supermoons were visible in the same month was in 2018. It won’t happen again until 2037.

The last Blue Moon was Aug. 22, 2021.
