
An area man was one of two people seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Taney County. Fifty-three-year-old Raymond Smoot of Jasper was transported by ambulance to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Smoot was traveling on U.S. Highway 65 when an equipment malfunction caused his vehicle to run the red light at the intersection with Missouri Highway 265. Smoot’s vehicle struck another vehicle driven by 27-year-old Israel Montelongo and occupied by 27-year-old Areli Vazquez Sosa, both of Liberty, Iowa, at the intersection. Vazquez Sosa was also transported to Cox Medical Center South. Montelongo avoided injury.
Both vehicles were totaled in the 3:50 p.m. accident.
