A Baxter County man is dead after an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 44-year-old Golden Reed Stowers of rural Calico Rock.

According to the incident report, emergency personnel were called to Stowers’ house on County Road 74, just west of Calico Rock shortly before 2 Wednesday afternoon. Baxter County deputies, Air-Evac, a Baxter Health ambulance and personnel from the Lone Rock Fire Department all responded to the incident.

The report indicates Stowers and two other people were loading a car on a trailer to be moved when they took a break. While walking from the field to the house, they opened a gate and Stowers grabbed a holster with a gun he had with him and the gun discharged, striking Stowers. One of the other people assisted Stowers into the house where he collapsed.

Emergency medical personnel’s life saving attempts were unsuccessful and Stowers was pronounced dead at the scene.
