Marion County Fair to begin Tuesday

The Marion County Fair and Livestock Show began Saturday with its annual parade. The activities at the fairgrounds, located at 513 East Seawell Avenue in Summit, will get underway Tuesday.

The fairgrounds’ activities begin with exhibits being entered in the creative arts, horticulture and field crops divisions Tuesday from noon to 6:30. Judging will be Wednesday morning at 8:30.

Also on Wednesday, livestock being entered must be checked in and in place by 8 in the evening. The poultry testing will be from 5 to 8, and animals will be weighed in at 7.

Thursday will be School Day at the fair starting at 9 that morning. The livestock skills-a-thon will begin an hour later. Thursday is also Senior Day with Bingo and lunch at 11. Other activities later in the day include a tractor driving contest at 1 and a small animal show featuring sheep, meat goats and pigs at 6. The small animal barn will be closed to the public at 4.

Friday’s activities will begin at 10 with poultry judging and the dairy cows and goats show. Rabbit judging will get underway at 11:30. The beef livestock show is scheduled for 4, and the evening will conclude with live music from 7 to 9.

Saturday will be the last day of the fair. The day will begin at 10 with calf dressing in the arena. The greased pig scramble begins at noon, and the pizza and pie eating contests will be two hours later. Marion County Paving owners Shane and Darla Davenport will sponsor the Power Wheels Derby at 3.

At 3:30 Saturday afternoon, the exhibit building will be locked and closed to the public. Exhibits will be released between 4 and 5. The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction and Makin’ Bacon will sponsor a buyers dinner at 4, and the auction will be at 5. The fair will come to an end with live music from 7 to 9.
