Motorists traveling on the west side of Mountain Home may have noticed new signage to mark Big Creek Golf and Country Club. The Arkansas Department of Transportation recently removed the green signs and replaced them with brown signs marking Big Creek’s designation as part of the Arkansas Golf Trail.
Big Creek Managing Partner Lang Zimmerman says the original signs had been in place since either 2004 or 2005.
Listen:
Zimmerman was one of driving forces behind the creation of what was originally named the Natural State Golf Trail in the early 2000s. According to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas, the trail is a public-private partnership created to showcase the scenic golf courses of the state. The trail consists of 12 courses, including Big Creek, in 11 different locations across Arkansas.
Zimmerman says the trail got a name change sometime around five to seven years ago.

The signs can be seen near the entrance at Big Creek on U.S. Highway 62/412 and coming off the west end of the Sheid-Hopper Bypass.
