Friday football results include Yellville-Summit losing conference opener at Perryville

The Yellville-Summit High School football team’s first conference game of the season ended on a rough note. The Panthers went to Perryville on Friday and suffered 20-0 loss. Yellville-Summit drops to 4-1 on the season and 0-1 in the 3A-2, and they’ll host Melbourne next week for homecoming.

Salem remains unbeaten as they also played their first game in the 3A-2. The Greyhounds, currently ranked second in Class 3A by the Arkansas Sports Media, invoked the mercy rule as they pounded Atkins 56-14. Salem is 5-0 on the year and 1-0 in the league, and they’ll face another group of Greyhounds next week when they go to Newport.

Harrison’s lead in its conference opener slipped away at Farmington. The Goblins were edged out by the Cardinals 43-40. Harrison falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the 5A-West, and they’ll entertain Prairie Grove next week.

On the eight-man level, Izard County was able to dominate its first game of the conference slate. The Cougars, currently ranked third in Classes 2A/1A, went to Pleasant Plains and beat up on Midland 60-14. Izard County is now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the 2A/1A-North.

Marshall’s first conference game was a rough one as they faced another group of Bobcats. Marshall went on the road and suffered a 56-14 loss to Corning, the second-ranked team in Classes 4A/3A. Marshall drops to 1-3 on the year and 0-1 in the 4A/3A-North.

Mountain View’s road trip ended with a win in its last non-conference game of the regular season. The Yellowjackets, the top-ranked team in Classes 4A/3A, shut out Fountain Lake 26-0. Mountain View improves to 4-0, and they have never lost a game since their switch to eight-man football.
