The Mountain Home High School football team’s first victory in the 6A-West came in dramatic fashion. A walk-off field goal by Kelso Haught gave the Bombers a 24-21 victory over Russellville on Friday as they were able to overcome five turnovers.

Mountain Home’s offense struggled throughout the night, particularly in the first half as they were held scoreless. The Cyclones went into the locker room up 7-0. Mountain Home scored just over a minute into the third quarter on a two-play drive ending with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cade Yates to Carter Adkins. Halfway through the period, the Bombers took their first lead when Robert Dover, normally a defensive lineman, came into the game and caught a five-yard pass from Yates in the end zone. Russellville tied the game up nearly a minute-and-a-half later. Mountain Home went back on top on a two-yard run from Chris Hubbard with less than nine minutes left before the Cyclones tied the game minutes later.

The Bombers were driving in the last few seconds of the game. They got down to the 1-yard line, and with the clock stopped at two seconds, they lined up for an 18-yard field goal attempt. Haught kicked the ball through the uprights, and the clock hit zero to give Mountain Home the win.

Yates was 26 of 46 through the air for 294 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions, and he also had 16 carries for 42 yards. Jett Hannaford caught 11 passes for 139 yards, and Chris Hubbard ran the ball 28 times for 95 yards. For Russellville, Luke Jones completed eight passes out of 19 attempts for 110 yards, and he had 13 carries for 52 yards.

The Bombers improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-2 in the 6A-West. The Cyclones fall to 1-4 and 0-3.

Mountain Home will travel to Little Rock next week for an outing with Pulaski Academy.
