Salem girls’ golf team wins Class 3A state championship

For the first time ever, the Salem High School girls’ golf team can claim the title of state champions. The Lady Greyhounds won the Class 3A State Tournament Tuesday at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne.

Salem’s team total was 283, four strokes ahead of the runners-up from Gosnell. Melbourne finished third at 288, Valley Springs was seventh at 302, and Flippin ended up 10th at 345.

Neci Hill of DeWitt was the individual medalist with a 78. Melbourne’s Annie Rush took second place at three strokes back. Other members of the All-State team include Valley Springs’ Landrey King with an 88, Katie Fish of Salem with an 89 and fellow Lady Greyhound Chloe Taylor with a 91. Reese Johnson was Flippin’s top golfer with a 100.
