A Baxter County man, 18-year-old Jakob Leonard McFarland, has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at his father and threatening to kill him. The incident happened at the family’s home in the Promise Land area Sunday afternoon.
According to the probable cause affidavit, when the first deputy arrived, the victim said he and his son had gotten into a verbal argument, with the younger McFarland threatening physical harm to his father. It’s alleged McFarland went to his vehicle and returned with a loaded 30-30 rifle, cocked it, pointed it at his father’s chest and said “I’ll kill you!”
The father was on the phone with the sheriff’s office, causing the suspect to take the gun and leave. McFarland later contacted the sheriff’s office to meet with deputies. When he did, he was taken into custody.
McFarland is charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member. He is free on $5,000 bond.
