For nearly 20 years, a local organization has provided a shelter for over 1,800 men. Alpha House is a transitional shelter in Mountain Home with a mission to help homeless men in the area to get back on their feet.

Alpha House founder Bill Webster will be on an upcoming episode of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. He says 75 to 80% of the men they have served came from broken families.

Alpha House is located at 424 East Seventh Street. It currently holds a maximum of eight occupants, although Webster says if possible, he prefers to keep that number at six. Alpha House’s mission is to provide a safe shelter, one-on-one counseling, spiritual guidance, job assistance and independence.

The process of getting an occupant into Alpha House starts with a phone call that could be from Baxter Health, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a local church or a relative. Webster says over the last four months, homeless calls to Alpha House have increased nearly 10-fold.
